For more than ten years, the iPhysio® device has established itself as the gold standard in modern implantology protocols. Designed to optimize soft tissue management, simplify digital impressions, and facilitate implant temporization, it has become a central element in digital dentistry workflows.

In a clinical feedback report based on more than 1,000 implants placed, Dr. Jacques Cheylus presents the evolution of the iPhysio® system and the benefits it brings to practitioners, dental laboratories, and patients.

The evolution of iPhysio®: from healing cap to a 3-in-1 device

The first version of iPhysio®, introduced in 2015, was a polymer healing cap clipped onto a titanium base. Although innovative, this solution presented certain mechanical limitations, particularly a risk of disassembly during the osseointegration phase, which could lead to patient discomfort and inaccuracies during intraoral scanning.

Following clinical feedback and discussions with the R&D teams, a new generation of iPhysio® was developed. The current device is designed as a screw-retained one-piece healing abutment, made of titanium with a zirconium nitride coating, offering:

improved radiopacity

several anatomical shapes adapted to different dental areas

compatibility with intraoral scanners

a digital library available for major CAD/CAM software

This evolution has transformed iPhysio® into a true 3-in-1 tool, combining three functions: healing, impression, and support for provisional restoration.

Optimization of emergence profile and soft tissues

One of the main advantages of iPhysio® lies in its ability to reproduce an anatomical emergence profile close to that of a natural tooth. The different shapes of the device allow precise adaptation of soft tissue healing around the implant.

Thanks to its design and biocompatible coating, peri-implant tissues generally show:

healthy vascularization

optimal papilla support

long-term gingival stability

These characteristics promote optimal aesthetic and functional integration of implant restorations.

A simpler and faster digital impression

iPhysio® also plays a major role in simplifying the digital workflow. The device can be directly scanned with an intraoral scanner, without requiring placement and removal of a specific scanbody.

This approach offers several advantages:

impression time reduced by two to three times

elimination of conventional impressions with impression materials

improved patient comfort

greater accuracy in implant positioning within the digital workflow

The associated digital library is compatible with the main CAD/CAM systems, facilitating communication with dental laboratories.

Implant temporization and management of provisional restorations

iPhysio® also makes it easy to produce provisional restorations directly on the abutment, particularly thanks to a clip-on provisional abutment system with a short screw.

This protocol allows practitioners to:

maintain the emergence profile obtained during healing

precisely reproduce this profile in the final crown

improve soft tissue stability

Long-term clinically confirmed results

After several years of use and extended clinical follow-up, observations show that implants healed with iPhysio® provide:

bone stability comparable to delayed implants

better preservation of soft tissues

improved gingival aesthetic scores

These results confirm the relevance of the device in immediate implantation protocols, both in anterior regions and in molar areas.

A tool at the heart of digital dentistry

Beyond its clinical performance, iPhysio® fully fits into the evolution toward integrated digital implantology. By combining tissue management, digital impressions, and temporization, it simplifies procedures while improving accuracy and patient experience.

After ten years of clinical use, this device appears as an effective link between implantology, aesthetic dentistry, and digital technologies, offering a reliable and accessible solution for practitioners wishing to optimize their implant protocols.

The iBone® concept represents a major advance in dental implantology.
iBone® combines the mechanical properties of conventional implants with biological preservation: 34% less metal means 34% more space for the blood clot, then for the bone. This implant also relies on reduced bone stress to deliver far superior primary stability. This is the result of anchorage by the peaks of the threads and the stability achieved by healing. A new, less mechanical and more biological approach to obtaining more bone around your implants. To find out more, read the article in the Best of Implantology magazine.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the bone loss that occurs prior to prosthetic loading around tapered internal connection (CIC) implants placed at the crestal (C) and subcrestal (S) levels.

To carry out this study, a randomized clinical trial (RCT) was carried out, with a sample of 62 implants placed in 27 patients who underwent radiological checks on the day of insertion, at one month and at 4 months, and stability was measured by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) on three occasions.

A study, published in August 2021 in the Journal of Oral Implantology, analyses NaCl decontamination of healing abutments.

Analysis shows that although decontamination with NaCl removes all traces of bacteria, deposits remain in the interstices.

A more in-depth study of the composition of these elements will be required before determining whether the reuse of NaCl-decontaminated healing abutments can be envisaged.

Volume of unsupported peri-implant soft tissue over time: A cross-sectional observation study, Galibourg A, Dumoncel J, Cormary J, Maret D - Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. 2021 June;125(6):883-889

This study analyses the behaviour of peri-implant soft tissues when they are no longer supported, as will be the case during impression taking when the healing abutment is unscrewed.

The conclusion is that the emergence profile collapses significantly when the tissues are no longer supported for 30 seconds or more.
